| Tastes and Traditions of Great Outdoors Captured in New Cookbook CAMPSITE to Kitchen from the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) By Naomi K. Shapiro The tastes and traditions of America's great outdoors have been captured in a new cookbook put together by the Outdoor Writers Association of America -- and you won't go wrong if you make it an excellent gift for yourself, spouse, friends, or other family members -- for any holiday or gift occasion -- or present yourself with a wonderful, thoughtful, and useful gift. CAMPSITE to Kitchen overflows with the bounty of the great outdoors as it guides you through savory recipes accompanied by memorable outdoor anecdotes and experiences of nationally recognized outdoor writers. Recipe sections in this unique cookbook reflect an array of outdoor traditions regarding venison and other game, game birds, waterfowl, fish, shellfish, wild vegetables, fruits, and more. CAMPSITE to Kitchen also contains new ideas and recipes for outdoor grilling, as well as how to prepare "day foods" for use along the trail, in the blind, or around the fire. You'll enjoy reading and trying dishes like Fork-Tender Venison Roast, Easy Grilled Quail, Easy Pan-Fried Fish, Teriyaki Grilled Steelhead, Marinated Woodcock Saute, Bunty's Brunch Quail, Caroline Blueberry Crunch, or Blackberry Stove-Top Cobbler, to name only a few. (See some of the RECIPES presented in the recipe section of our web-site). One OWAA member's note on Wild Game Leftovers in CAMPSITE to Kitchen goes as follows... "Every hunter is faced with the dilemma of wild game getting iffy in the freezer. I dreamed this one up to thwart this situation, and am glad to share it with hunters and spouses caught in a smilar bind. Works well with domestic leftovers, too: Thaw meat (any leftover wild game) and dice into thumbnail-size chunks. Heat mushroom soup (one or more cans depending on quantiy of meat) to a bubble and stir in chunks. Cut one loaf of Italian bread into thick slices, drench both sides in beaten eggs and fry in butter until crispy. Cover with soupy mixture and try not to grin too broadly as leftovers disappear. It's really yummy!" ("Uncle Homer" Circle) I'm only sorry that I never mailed the recipes (for Dandelion Ravioli, Morel Pizza, Crispie Crappie, Lamb's Quarter Jam Muffins, and Pickled Fish) that I was going to send in to this cookbook. -30- Naomi K.
